This is a poem my Momma wrote to me about 10 years ago. I am her only child, and the older I get, the more I look just like her. I came across her poem going through paperwork for her funeral. She had requested in a letter to me that one of my Uncles read it at her funeral. And so it was.
I have her hand-written poem in a frame in my livingroom for all who enter to read. I hope you too will be blessed by her loving words. Gail Louise Winkelmann passed away on May 25, 2005. She was 54 years young. I'll Always Love You too Momma.
My Daughter
When you find yourself hurting in silence
and everyone is out of reach;
Go look in the mirror and smile my child
For it is there again we shall meet.
And when your child holds your hand
and looks into your eyes and smiles,
Make no mistake, for it is by God's grace
It is me in their breath and their sighs.
I have loved you from the begining of you
When no-one was there to hold
And I kissed you and held you in my arms
You were my heart, my mind, and my soul.
And I will be here till the end of time,
You can feel me from warmth of the sun,
And when you feel rain fall upon your face,
It's my touch from a cloud up above.
Like a flower I'm here, like the wind everywhere,
When you miss me or cry in your sleep.
But just look in the mirror and smile,
Like I said,
It is there each time we shall meet.
I'll Always Love You, Momma
